SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Kevin Kramer hit his sixth home run and Trayvon Robinson roped a pinch-hit RBI double in the eighth inning, but Will Craig was thrown out at the plate on Robinson's two-bagger as the Indians fell short of a series sweep in Syracuse on Thursday, 3-2. The Mets made an array of spectacular defensive plays, including a diving catch by center fielder Aaron Altherr that ended the game.

Syracuse (51-52) secured a 3-1 advantage in the sixth inning on a Dilson Herrera run-scoring double and Gregor Blanco RBI single. Both runs were charged to Sean Keselica (L, 1-5), who lasted 3.2 innings and surrendered three total runs on five hits in the defeat.

Indianapolis (52-50) scored the game's first run on Kramer's solo shot in the fifth off Ervin Santana, his first long ball since May 25. Altherr quickly evened the game in the home half with a solo homer of his own.

After the Mets took command through six, the Indians showed late fight in their final two at-bats but couldn't push across the tying run.

In the eighth, Ke'Bryan Hayes and Craig greeted reliever Brooks Pounders with singles but stayed at first and second until Robinson snuck his double past Blanco to the right field wall. Hayes scored on the play but Blanco's throw to second baseman Ruben Tejada and the relay to catcher Rene Rivera relay cut down Craig barreling home.

Indy again threatened in the ninth against Tim Peterson (S, 7), who gave up two runs in the Tribe's 7-6 comeback win on Tuesday. Steven Baron opened the frame with an infield single to Danny Espinosa at short for the Tribe's 10th hit of the game. Darnell Sweeney replaced Baron at first as a pinch runner but was thrown out at second trying to advance on a pitch in the dirt. Jason Martin then had a base hit taken away by Tejada on a one-hop smash to second. Cole Tucker kept the game alive thanks to a four-pitch walk, but Erik Gonzalez flew out to shallow center on Altherr's game-saving catch.

Santana (W, 2-1) scattered five hits and one walk with two strikeouts over six innings of one-run ball.

Jake Elmore singled to extend his hitting streak to 12 games. The loss snapped Indy's four-game winning streak.

The Indians continue their road trip with the opener of a three-game series on Friday night in Rochester. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. ET. Cam Vieaux (3-1, 5.21) will start for the Tribe.
