Louisville Bats News Release
LOUISVILLE, Ky - The Louisville Bats dropped the final game of a three-game series against the Gwinnett Stripers by a score of 5-4. The Bats got a solid outing from starter Tejay Antone (2-5, 5.55) but came away with the loss.
The Bats jumped out to an early lead scoring runs in the second and third innings as Aristides Aquino led off the second inning with a solo home run, his 25th of the season, tying him for third in home runs in the International League. Aquino's homer would be followed by a Nick Longhi triple, his third of the season, who would score thanks to a Scott Schebler single making it a 2-0 Bats' lead. Schebler would finish the night at the plate going 2-for-3.
Louisville extended their lead to 3-0 in the third inning as Cincinnati Reds rehabber Tucker Barnhart led off the inning doubling, eventually scoring on another double by Brian O'Grady, who would also hit a second double in the sixth inning finishing the game going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Barnhart caught five full innings in his first rehab start going 1-for-3 with a run and one strikeout, as well as throwing out a Gwinnett baserunner. Barnhart would be replaced by Chadwick Tromp to start the sixth.
The Stripers offense scored runs of their own in the fourth and fifth innings to knot the score at three, highlighted by Stripers center fielder Rafael Ortega's two-run homer in the fourth.
Gwinnett would go on to add two runs in the seventh taking a 5-3 lead. Four of the runs would be earned to Antone as he pitched 6.1 innings, scattering seven hits, walking three and striking out five, then being relieved by Jimmy Herget in the seventh, who worked 1.2 innings in relief allowing one run and two hits, while striking out two.
Louisville's offense would add another run in the eighth cutting the Stripers lead to one run, as Aquino's sacrifice fly scored Tromp. Stripers starter Kyle Wright (8-4, 4.83) picked up the win for Gwinnett.
The Bats open up their second series of the homestand 7:00 pm Friday night at Louisville Slugger Field against the Scranton-Wilkes/Barre RailRiders. Right-hander Keury Mella (6-10, 4.77) is expected to get the start for Louisville as RHP Deivi Garcia (1-0, 4.50) is expected to toe the rubber for the RailRiders.
