Tri-City Travels to Waterloo for First Meeting with Black Hawks

Waterloo, IA. - For the first time in the 2020-2021 regular season, the Tri-City Storm will face off against the Waterloo Black Hawks tonight at Young Arena in Waterloo, Iowa. Tonight's game is the first meeting between the two teams in this year's six-game season series. Tri-City finished last season with a 1-2-2-0 record against Waterloo. Following yesterday's road game against Des Moines being ruled a "No Contest" by the USHL, Tri-City will now play a two-game weekend against the Black Hawks. Puck drop for tonight's game is scheduled for 6:05pm.

Tri-City (15-9-0-1) had a four-game winning streak snapped a week ago in a 5-3 road loss to the Sioux Falls Stampede. The Storm enters tonight's road game against Waterloo as the 2nd place team in the USHL's Western Conference standings. Tri-City currently trails conference-leading Fargo by nine points but has five games in hand on the Force. On Wednesday, Cole McWard was named the USHL's Defenseman of the Week for the first time in his career. McWard scored the Storm's game-winning goal in overtime last Friday against Sioux Falls and became the first defenseman in the history of the Tri-City Storm on Saturday to record three-powerplay goals in a single game. His four-game goal streak is currently the second longest active goal streak by any player in the USHL. Tri-City is 10-1-0-0 when leading after the 1st period and 13-0-0-0 when leading after the 2nd period this season. The Storm is also 9-7-01 when outshooting its opponents and 5-2-0-0 when being outshot. Enter tonight's road game at Young Arena, Tri-City has posted a record of 8-6-0-1 in fifteen road games played this season. Scoring leaders for Tri-City through the opening twenty-five games of the season include; Carter Mazur (10, Cole McWard (10), Hunter Strand (9), Rhett Pitlick (7), Mark Estapa (7), Cole O'Hara (6), and Gavin Brindley (6). Following tonight's road game against the Black Hawks the Storm returns to action tomorrow afternoon in another road game in Waterloo.

Waterloo (9-15-1-0) enters tonight's home game against the Storm as the 7th place team in the Western Conference standings following a 7-6 road victory last night over the Dubuque Fighting Saints. David Gucciardi (2), Jacob Jeannette, Dane Montgomery, Casey Severo, Owen Ozar, and Ethan Szmagaj all scored goals in last night's road win. Charlie Glockner and Emmet Croteau each saw time in net with Glockner recording the win. Waterloo holds a 6-3-0-0 record in games played against the Storm at Young Arena over the past five seasons. The Black Hawks posted a 4-1-0-0 record against the Storm during the 2019-2020 regular season. Waterloo's power-play scored twice last night and is currently ranked 5th in the USHL (22.1%). The Black Hawks' penalty kill is ranked 4th in the league this year at 84.3%. Scoring leaders for Waterloo following last night's game include; Owen Ozar (8), Kyler Kleven (7), Wyatt Schingoethe (7), David Gucciardi (6), Max Sasson (6), Alex Gaffney (6), and Michael LaStarza (6).
