
Storm Drop Opening Game of Weekend to Waterloo

Waterloo, IA. - The Tri-City Storm dropped the opening game of the weekend to the Waterloo Black Hawks by a final score of 5-4 Saturday night at Young Arena. Mark Estapa, Vinny Borgesi, Conner Hutchison, and Cole McWard each scored in Tri-City's road loss. Puck drop for tomorrow's game between the Storm and the Black Hawks is scheduled for 3:05pm.
Kyler Kleven scored the opening goal of the game for Waterloo at 3:39 of the 1st period. The Storm answered with a goal from Mark Estapa at 8:10 of the 1st period to tie the game at 1-1. The goal was Estapa's eighth of the season and was assisted by Hunter Strand. With less than a minute to play in the 1st period, Vinny Borgesi netted his second goal of the season to give Tri-City a one-goal lead. Borgesi's goal was assisted by Kyler Kovich. Tri-City outshot Waterloo 8-4 in the 1st period and carried a one-goal lead into the 2nd period.
Waterloo's Alex Gaffney scored the only goal of the 2nd period to tie the game at 2-2. Waterloo outshot Tri-City 11-8 in the 2nd period and the game entered the 3rd period in a 2-2 tie.
Dane Montgomery scored his second goal of the season to put Waterloo ahead by one goal at 1:59 of the 2nd period. Alex Gaffney scored his second goal of the night at 7:23 of the 3rd period to give the Black Hawks a 4-2 lead. With less than five minutes remaining in the game, Conner Hutchison scored his 1st Career USHL Goal to cut Waterloo's lead in half. Hutchison's 1st goal was scored on the power-play at 15:08 of the 3rd period. The goal was assisted by Matthew Knies and Cole O'Hara. At 16:42 of the 3rd period, Cole McWard netted his eleventh goal of the season to tie the game at 4-4. Rhett Pitlick and Conner Hutchison assisted on the goal. With fifty-four seconds left in the game, Ryan O'Hara scored the game winning goal for Waterloo. Tri-City dropped to 15-10-0-1 in the loss.
Todd Scott made 9 saves on 10 shots in just over thirty-two minutes of time in net for Tri-City before leaving the game due to an injury. Connor Hopkins made 7 saves on 11 shots in the final 26:51 of the game and recorded the loss.
