Tri-City Earns Tough Road Win, Defeats Seattle 5-3

Kent, WA- Revenge is a dish best served on cold ice.

The Tri-City Americans (38-23-1-2, 79 pts) avenged their loss on home ice last night by inflicting the same pain on the Seattle Thunderbirds (22-36-7-1, 52 pts) tonight, earning a 5-3 win on the road in the ShoWare Center.

Tri-City has won five of the eight meetings against Seattle this season. The Americans won their third straight game in Kent.

Seattle jumped on the board first less than three minutes into the game. Luke Lockhart gathered a loose puck in the neutral zone and skated ahead for a breakaway, beating Luke Lee-Knight on the glove side for a shorthanded goal and a 1-0 lead. Tri-City scored midway through the period as the Americans slapped away at a loose puck in front of the net, which finally crossed the goal line off Jesse Mychan's stick to tie the game. Tri-City took the lead later in the period as Drydn Dow brought the puck into the zone and fired a slap shot past the blocker of Brandon Glover to make it 2-1. The Americans outshot the Thunderbirds 16-5 and had four power play chances in the period, but couldn't score on any of them.

The Thunderbirds were able to tie the game in the second. Riley Sheen fired a puck into the net to even the game at two. Justin Feser helped the Ams retake the lead two minutes later as he fired a shot past Glover for his 40th of the season to make it 3-2. It didn't take long for the Americans to increase the lead to 4-2 as Feser fed a beautiful pass in front to Malte Strömwall, who was able to one-time a shot into the goal. Seattle had the shot advantage 10-5 but went into the third period down by two goals.

Seattle pressed in the third period to try and tie the game and eventually cut the lead to one with just under eight minutes left as Lockhart's second effort helped him squeak the puck over the goal line. The Thunderbirds pulled the goalie with about two minutes remaining in an effort to tie the game, but Tri-City sealed the win as Zachary Yuen fired the puck the length of the ice into an empty net to end Seattle's comeback chances.

Feser had a goal and two assists tonight, extending his point streak to eight games. Four Americans had more than one point tonight.

Lee-Knight stopped 25 shots in the win while Glover made 26 saves in the loss.

Tri-City will head north into British Columbia for a pair of games against the Prince George Cougars (18-37-2-6, 44 pts) on Monday, March 4 at the CN Centre. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. The Americans have only faced the Cougars once this season, with Tri-City defeating Prince George 5-2 in late January.
