Regina Pats News Release
First Period The Pats started out on the penalty kill early on as Adam Brooks was called for the first infraction of the game for hooking three minutes into the first stanza. While down a man, Hewitt single handedly kept the game scoreless. Later in the frame, Warriors forward Colton McCarthy turned a two-on-two into a two-on-one with Justin Kirsch after he broke free from Pats defender Darian Henry. McCarthy fed the puck across to Kirsch, and he one-timed it into the back of the net.
With 1:25 left in the frame, Jordan Wyton was called for hooking which gave the Blue and White their second powerplay opportunity. Twenty-four seconds into the man advantage, Klimchuk potted the 50th goal of his Western Hockey League career. Scheidl and Dyson Stevenson registered assists on the play. Klimchuk's powerplay goal evened the score up 1-1 after one period of play.
Second Period The Pats forced Paulic to make timely saves in the latter half of the second frame. Their ability to move the puck around in the offensive zone opened the ice up for scoring opportunities. Eventually, their hard work paid off courtesy of Braden Christoffer. On the rush, Christoffer finished off a beautiful tic-tac-toe play with Stevenson and Trent Ouellette. Christoffer's tally put the home team up, 2-1. Shortly after, Stevenson got the gate for roughing with 32-seconds left in the frame. The Pats led 2-1 after 40-minutes.
Third Period Stevenson's minor expired 1:29 into the final frame. The Pats were given the man advantage again, but it was short-lived as Christoffer was called for roughing 27-seconds after Carter Hanson's penalty at 14:34. The visitors took over in the third and peppered Hewitt with 10 shots in a span of seven minutes. Warriors Sam Fioretti knotted the game up 2-2 with 6:39 to go in the contest. Fioretti's game tying tally was set up by Kendall McFaull and Morgan Reilly. Tanner Eberle took a checking to the head penalty with 43-seconds left in the game that gave the Pats a late game powerplay. The Blue and White didn't capitalize in regulation, which meant that their man advantage carried over into overtime.
Overtime
Eberle returned to the ice with 3:43 to spare in the extra frame. The Warriors outshot the Pats, but it was Ouellette's shot that made the difference with 15-seconds to go in overtime. Ouellette rifled the puck over Paulic's glove, off the crossbar, and into the back of the net to win the game for the Blue and White. The crowd at the Brand Centre went into a frenzy as the Pats defeated the Warriors on home ice, 3-2. Hewitt made 41 saves to pick up victory.
