Trenton Thunder News Release

(Portland, ME)- The Sea Dogs jumped out to an early lead once again in this game, leading 4-1 after two innings. However, the Thunder offense was resilient tying it up with a run in the third and two in the fifth, and then taking their first lead of the series in the eighth inning with a three spot to make it 7-4, a lead they would not relinquish. Colin Curtis hit his fifth homerun of the season, and Carlos Mendoza came up with a big two run double to deep center field in the eighth inning, which gave the Thunder a 6-4 lead at the time.

LHP Chase Wright, making his first start since coming off the disabled list, was only able to go 2.2 IP, giving up 6 H, 4 R, (1 ER), and one walk, while striking out three batters. RHP Anthony Claggett was the story tonight. He pitched an impressive 3.2 innings of shutout baseball, (his longest outing of the season), only giving up 2 H and 1 BB, while striking out three batters. LHP Zach Kroenke also got the job done coming in relief after Claggett as he improved to 4-0 on the season, going 1.2 IP, giving up 1 H, no runs, 1 BB, and also getting three strikeouts.

While the pitchers were doing their job, the offense came through time and time again with runners in scoring position, something that has been plaguing them recently. The Thunder will look to take the rubber game of the series tomorrow at 1:00 in a good pitching matchup with LHP Phil Coke going for the Thunder, and RHP Michale Bowden going for the Sea Dogs.
