Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release
Salvador Aguilar tossed seven strong innings and drove in two runs and Fernando Martinez hit a game-tying homer, helping the Binghamton Mets to a 5-4 win over the Connecticut Defenders at NYSEG Stadium Saturday. The victory is Binghamton's seventh in 10 games.
Connecticut (36-43) took a 3-0 lead, thanks to RBI singles by Kyle Haines, in the second, and Ben Copeland and Pablo Sandoval, in the third. Aguilar (9-1) would settle down thereafter, retiring the last 10 in a row.
The B-Mets (45-35) rallied against Defenders starter Ben Snyder in the third. Aguilar and Jose Coronado each reached with one-out singles before Martinez hit a three-run homer to left, knotting the score.
Snyder (0-1) ran into trouble again in the fourth. Salomon Manriquez and Jonathan Malo singled before Emmanuel Garcia was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs. Aguilar followed by ripping a single to left-center, scoring Manriquez and Malo, for a 5-3 advantage.
Adam Witter's RBI groundout off Eddie Camacho in the eighth scored Connecticut's final run. Eddie Kunz struck out the side in the ninth to earn his 21st save in 24 chances.
Sunday, the Binghamton Mets play the rubber game of their three-game series against the Connecticut Defenders. Tobi Stoner (0-1, 3.18) will start for Binghamton against Adam Cowart (5-6, 4.10) of Connecticut. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. with the radio broadcast beginning at 12:50 p.m. on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
