Scoring Machine...Last night the Aeros pounded out 19 hits in a 16-6 rout of the Phillies on fireworks night, setting season highs in hits, runs and RBI, and tying season and franchise-highs for triples in a game. LF Trevor Crowe led the offense with three hits, including a grand slam and a double, four runs scored, and four RBI. DH Stephen Head also homered for Akron and had two RBI, and SS Josh Rodriguez tied a franchise record with two triples. The Aeros put up five runs in the first inning with RBIs from RF Bronson Sardinha, 3B Wes Hodges, Head, 2B Brandon Pinckney, and C Wyatt Toregas, and Rodriguez had an RBI single in the second to give Akron a 6-2 lead. After Reading added two in the third to make it 6-4, the Aeros got the runs back on an RBI groundout by CF Jose Constanza and a run-scoring double-play by Crowe. The Phillies cut it to 8-5 in the sixth, but Akron nailed it down with six runs on seven hits (a season-high) in the seventh inning. Head led off with a homer, and after a groundout, the Aeros hit for the cycle in the span of five batters. Pinckney started things with a single, and went to third on a double by Toregas. The Phils intentionally walked Constanza to load the bases, but Crowe stepped up and pounded a grand slam into the bleachers in right. Rodriguez tripled and scored on an RBI hit by Sardinha to cap the inning. In the eighth, Rodriguez tripled for the second time, this time driving in two runs for the final margin.
En Fuego...Trevor Crowe has moved well past the realm of 'hot' and is officially 'on fire.' His grand slam was the highlight of last night's game and he also put up a double, three hits, scored four times, and recorded a stolen base. Over the month of June, Crowe leads the Eastern League with a .408 average (40-98) and has three homers, 22 RBI, and five stolen bases, and since June 19th has been simply electric at the top of Akron's order. He's hitting .564 (22-39) with 15 runs, three homers, six doubles, 16 RBI, four walks, and just two strikeouts over his last nine games. Crowe now leads the team in batting average this season, hitting .314 with three home runs, 24 RBI, and 26 walks in 38 games.
Double-Triple...SS Josh Rodriguez became the third Aero this season to tie the franchise record with two triples in a game (IF Brandon Chaves and OF Ryan Goleski each accomplished the feat in games in April). Last night, the Rice University product's three-baggers came in consecutive innings as the Aeros put away the Phillies. In the seventh, he tripled to right-center following Crowe's grand slam, and he came around to score on Sardinha's single. His second triple, in the eighth, brought around Constanza and Crowe to score, both of whom started the rally with two-out singles. Rodriguez has five triples on the year and is hitting .266 with four homers and 33 RBI.
Did You Know...The Aeros have 15 seventh-inning home runs, seven more than they have in any other inning (3rd and 6th).
