
Renton gets even, beat 'Dogs 7-4!

(Portland, ME) - The Trenton Thunder (48-32) scored three runs in the 8th inning and beat the Portland Sea Dogs (44-34) 7-4 on Saturday night at Hadlock Field. The series is even at one game a piece with the rubber game on Sunday afternoon.
Carlos Mendoza snapped a 4-4 tie with a 2-out, 2-run double over the head of CF Mickey Hall in the eighth. Reegie Corona followed with a run-scoring double. Chad Rhoades (2-2) took the loss for Portland, surrendering all three runs in the eight on four hits.
Trenton's bullpen hurled 6.1 scoreless frames, giving up six hits and fanning six. Zach Kroenke (4-0) worked 1.2 IP and fanned three to earn the win. Bo Hall allowed three singles in the ninth inning but retired Iggy Suarez on a force-out to notch his second save of the year.
Both starters didn't make it out of the third inning. The 'Dogs jumped on Chase Wright (2.2 IP, 6 H, 4 R) in the first inning thanks to a two-out error by 2B Mendoza. Sandy Madera followed with a single - Aaron Bates and John Otness delivered RBI singles.
Matt Goodson pitched only two innings on three hits and two runs. Mendoza knocked home Trenton's first run with a run-scoring infield single in the second. Portland responded with two in their half of the second on two-out RBI singles from Ryan Khoury and Zach Daeges. Portland did not score after Daeges singled and went 0-for-10 with runners-in-scoring position to end the game (4-for-16 overall).
Carlos Vasquez relieved Goodson in the third inning and yielded two runs in three innings pitched. Colin Curtis homered on Vasquez's first pitch of the third. In the fifth inning, Trenton tied the game on a bases-loaded walk by Cody Ehlers and Jose Tabata's RBI single to right field.
The Sea Dogs stranded seven runners in the final three innings and failed to score in the seventh inning when they had the bases loaded and one out.
