Arkansas Travelers News Release
North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers finished their season-opening homestand with a 6-3 win over the Frisco RoughRiders on Tuesday morning at Dickey-Stephens Park.
The Travs started the scoring early with two runs in the first inning thanks to a CF Bo Way single, RBI double from 2B Sherman Johnson and 1B Eric Aguilera RBI single.
After adding two more in the third, one in the fourth and one in the fifth, Arkansas opened up a 6-0 lead behind RHP Kyle McGowin (W, 1-1) who was masterful over seven innings.
McGowin allowed a run on four hits with two walks and seven strikeouts.
Aguilera finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs. The infielder has six RBIs on the season, tied for second-most in the Texas League.
After LHP Tyler DeLoach surrendered three runs in the eighth, RHP Austin Wood (S, 1) earned his first professional save with a perfect ninth.
Each of the first seven Travs in the lineup contributed at least one hit a night after the entire club mustered just one.
C Anthony Bemboom threw out DH Ryan Cordell attempting to steal second base and has caught each of the four attempted base stealers against him this season. He also has one pickoff.
Way scored two runs and stole two bases for the Travs and Johnson finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored, the double, a walk, the RBI and a stolen base.
Arkansas went 3-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The team entered the game 3-for-22 in that situation.
With the win, Arkansas improved to 2-4 on the season. After a day off on Wednesday, the Travs will begin a six-game road trip with a three-game series in Midland on Thursday. First pitch for each of the three games is scheduled for 7 p.m.
