The Travs knocked eight singles in the third inning, including six straight to start the frame. The 12 total hits were the most for Arkansas in a home game since May 4 when the Travs also belted 12 against the Springfield Cardinals. (Mark Wagner)
North Little Rock, AR - The Arkansas Travelers shutdown the Northwest Arkansas Naturals' powerful offense on Monday, winning 5-1 to conclude the first half at Dickey-Stephens Park.
RHP Albert Suarez (W, 7-5) tossed six strong innings and RHP Eduard Santos (2 IP) and LHP Chris O'Grady (IP) retired all nine batters they faced in relief.
Suarez surrendered six hits with no walks and three strikeouts. The All-Star is tied for the league-lead with seven wins.
Santos struck out four of the six batters he faced, and O'Grady lowered his ERA to 1.55 with the 1-2-3 ninth.
Arkansas scored all five of its runs on eight fifth inning singles, including six in a row to start the frame.
2B-SS Drew Maggi, who batted leadoff for the first time this season, finished 2-for-5 with a run and a stolen base. The stolen base was the All-Star's 12th of the season, tying him with INF Sherman Johnson for the team lead.
CF Jared Mitchell went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run and is 10-for-his-last-25 (.400) over the Travs' last 10 games.
SS Eric Stamets, who finished 2-for-2, left the game in the fifth with a left leg cramp.
Arkansas finished with 12 hits in the game, the highest total for the Travs in a home game since May 4 vs. Springfield, a game Arkansas won 6-5.
The Travs went 5-for-10 with runners in scoring position.
LHP Jonathan Dziedzic (L, 4-4) worked five innings and surrendered the five runs on nine hits with a walk and five strikeouts.
RHP Ali Williams and RHP Benino Pruneda tossed three scoreless innings in relief.
With the win, Arkansas finished the first half 36-33. The second half begins on Tuesday night with game three of the four-game series and eight-game homestand. First pitch vs. Northwest Arkansas is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
