Jensen Named Texas League Pitcher of the Week
June 23, 2015 - Texas League (TL1)
Midland RockHounds News Release
Texas League President Tom Kayser announced today that RockHounds starting pitcher Chris Jensen has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week for June 15-21. Jensen is the second RockHound to receive that honor this season, following Carson Blair's selection for the week of May 25-31.
In his only start of the week, Jensen was sensational in San Antonio, earning his fifth win of the season by pitching seven innings and striking out seven Missions while limiting them to two hits and one (unearned) run.
He was the only pitcher to record an earned run average of 0.00 during the week, and he led the Texas League with a 0.57 WHIP and .091 opponents' batting average during this span.
For the season, Jensen's five wins (and 14 starts) are tied (both with Texas League All-Star Nate Long) for the team lead. Jensen's 81 innings pitched are the most on the team, and he currently ranks third on the squad with 42 strikeouts.
The 24-year-old Jensen (from Phoenix, Arizona) was acquired by the Athletics in the December 2013 trade that sent pitcher Brett Anderson to the Colorado Rockies. He was originally selected by the Rockies in the sixth round of the 2011 draft out of the University of San Diego.
Jensen's performance came in the first game of a double-header (and was the series opener) and brought some needed rest to his bullpen. Buoyed by his effort, the RockHounds won three of the four games of the series.
The 'Hounds (35-35) finished the first half of the Texas League regular season in second place in the South division, 13 games behind the Corpus Christi Hooks. The win-loss records of all teams now reset for the final 70 games of the year.
The RockHounds conclude their 12-game road trip with two games in Frisco (June 23-24) before returning to San Antonio June 25-28. This will take the team to the three-day break for the Texas League All-Star Game, to be held June 30 in Corpus Christi.
