Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (August 4, 2015) - Mason Robbins blasted his team-leading seventh triple of the season to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, but the Tourists rallied for two runs in the eighth to beat Kannapolis, 3-2, on Tuesday at Intimidators Stadium supported by Carolinas HealthCare System. Kannapolis (20-18 Second Half, 55-52) has dropped nine of 10 games against Asheville this season will play to avoid a series sweep on Wednesday.

Robbins, who finished 1-for-4 with a run scored, has hit safely in every game since July 22 for his longest hitting streak since a 17-gamer last season with Advanced Rookie Great Falls. Teammate Michael Suiter went 1-for-5 on the night, extending his career-best hitting streak to 14 games dating back to July 19.

Asheville (23-14 Second Half, 55-52) took the lead for the first time in the top of the eighth. Down 2-1 with a man on second and one out, Max George laid down a bunt-single that Ziznewski threw away, allowing Yonathan Daza to score the tying run. George later crossed the plate on an Omar Carrizales sac-fly for a 3-2 lead.

Helmis Rodriguez (8-5) earned the win for Asheville, limiting Kannapolis to two runs (one earned) on six hits in 7.0 innings of work. Brad Salgado (2-4) took the loss for the Intimidators, giving up two runs without the benefit of a hit over 2 and 2/3 relief innings.

Kannapolis broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth. Robbins extended his streak to 12 games with a triple to center field, and Louie Lechich singled through a drawn-in infield to score Robbins for a 1-0 lead.

Asheville tied the game and chased Kannapolis starter Zach Thompson from the game in the top of the fifth inning. After Thompson struck out the first two batters of the inning, the Tourists rallied to put men on base before Yonathan Daza's third hit of the game drove in Roberto Ramos to tie the game, 1-1.

Thompson set career highs with six strikeouts and six walks over 4 and 2/3 innings. He took no decision, giving up a run on six hits.

The Intimidators took advantage of an Asheville error to reclaim the lead in the bottom of the sixth. Alexander Simon singled and advanced to second base with two outs. Ramos failed to field a John Ziznewski grounder, allowing Simon to score on the miscue for a 2-1 lead.

The Intimidators wrap up this home stand on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. as RHP Yelmison Peralta (3-8, 6.51 ERA) takes the mound for Kannapolis against Asheville's RHP Ryan Castellani (0-6, 4.04 ERA). Wednesday's game is the annual Best Wings U.S.A. Charity Challenge where fans can purchase a wristband for only $5 to sample wings from local restaurants and vote for their favorites.
