HAGERSTOWN, Md. -- The Charleston RiverDogs trailed the Hagerstown Suns by one run after the first five innings, but came back to score seven runs over the next two frames en route to a 7-2 win Tuesday night at Municipal Stadium.
Joey Maher (3-4) pitched the first seven innings for Charleston (14-24 second half, 48-60 overall) and only allowed one run on three hits. Hagerstown's only tally against Maher came on a solo home run by Raudy Read on the first pitch in the bottom of the second. The win was Maher's second in a row.
The Suns (17-21, 52-54) held their 1-0 lead until the top of the sixth. Billy Fleming and Bo Thompson both drew walks to chase Hagerstown's starting pitcher Connor Bach (4-3) from the game.
After an Isaias Tejeda groundout moved runners to second and third, Austin Aune drove in Fleming with an RBI single. Thompson scored two batters later when Collin Slaybaugh reached on a fielding error by the third baseman David Masters. Griff Gordon capped off the four-run frame with a double to right, which plated Aune and Slaybaugh.
The RiverDogs increased their lead to 7-1 with three more runs in the top of the seventh. Fleming and Thompson reached on back-to-back fielding errors by Masters and short stop Osvaldo Abreu, respectively. Fleming scored on a double off the wall in center by Tejeda, and Alexander Palma plated two more runs on an RBI single to center.
Hagerstown scored one more run against Dillon McNamara in the bottom of the eighth as Masters came home to score on a two-out single by Abreu.
