Lexington Legends News Release

Back-to-back home runs by Kyle Parker and Cory Dickerson in the third inning helped Asheville build a four-run lead, and the Tourists held on to beat the Lexington Legends 5-4 Monday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Asheville scored a run in the top of the first inning. Leadoff hitter Avery Barnes reached on an error by shortstop Ben Orloff, moved to third on a single by Brett Tanos and scored when Cristhian Adames singled off the leg off Legends' starter Luis Cruz.

The Legends tied it in the second. Telvin Nash and Mike Kvasnicka singled, putting runners at first and second with no outs. Nash went to third after Ben Heath's long fly to center field, and scored on Roberto Pena's two-out single.

In the top of the third, Tanos singled and Adames walked before Parker hit his 21st home run of the year into the left-field bleachers to give Asheville a 4-1 lead. Dickerson followed with another shot into the bleachers, and the Tourists led 5-1.

The Legends came back with two runs in the bottom of the third. Delino DeShields Jr. led off with a bunt single, and after Tyler Burnett grounded out, Domingo Santana homered to right center to cut the lead to 5-3. It was Santana's second homer in six games with Lexington since he joined the Legends from the Philadelphia organization as part of the trade that sent Hunter Pence from Houston to the Phillies.

The Legends closed the gap to one run in the fourth on a one-out single by Pena, a double by Emilio King and a sacrifice fly by DeShields. The 5-4 score stood the rest of the way as Asheville starter Nick Schnaitmann and relievers Isaiah Froneberger and Bruce Kern limited the Legends to one hit over the last five innings.

Schnaitmann (5-1) worked the first seven innings and got the win. Froneberger pitched the eighth, and Kern worked a scoreless ninth to pick up his eighth save. Cruz (3-4) pitched the first five innings and took the loss.

The series resumes Tuesday at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
