Lexington Legends News Release
Roberto Pena hit a grand slam home run and Telvin Nash drove in five runs with a homer and two doubles as the Lexington Legends rolled past the Asheville Tourists 13-5 Tuesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Legends took a big lead early with three runs in the first inning and eight more in the second.
In the first, Delino DeShields Jr. led off with an infield hit, and moved to second when Ruben Sosa walked. After DeShields was picked off second, Domingo Santana doubled, sending Sosa to third, and both scored when Nash lined a double down the left field line.
The Legends sent 11 batters to the plate in the second inning. Emilio King and DeShields drew walks to start the inning. After Sosa sacrificed the runners to second and third, Santana was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Nash doubled to left for the second time, scoring King and DeShields, and moving Santana to third. Santana scored on a wild pitch by Asheville starter Peter Tago to give the Legends a 6-0 lead. Tyler Burnett's single scored Nash. Mike Kvasnicka's base hit moved Burnett to second and ended the night for Tago, who was relieved by Juan Gonzalez. Gonzalez hit Ben Orloff with a pitch to load the bases, and Pena delivered his grand slam to left field, making the score 11-0.
Legends' starter David Martinez shut out the Tourists on two hits through the first five innings.
Nash's solo homer in the fifth, and King's RBI double in the sixth made it 13-0.
Asheville got on the board in the seventh against reliever Juan Minaya. With one out, Anthony Aguilera walked, moved to second on a wild pitch, and scored on a two-out single by Mark Tracy.
The Tourists added another run in the eighth on a double by Avery Barnes and two wild pitches by Minaya. Dominic Altobelli hit a three-run homer with one out in the top of the ninth to close out the scoring.
Martinez (5-5) got the win. Tago (3-5) took the loss. The Legends and Tourists play Wednesday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
