Shorebirds Release Schedule for 2012 Season

Salisbury, Md. - The Delmarva Shorebirds, class "A" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, are excited to release the schedule for the 2012 South Atlantic League season. The 2012 slate includes 70 home games at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium with 22 of the home dates landing on a Friday or Saturday night.
The 2012 season will open on the road in Asheville, North Carolina on Thursday, April 5 with a four-game series against the Tourists (Colorado Rockies). The home opener at Perdue Stadium is scheduled for Thursday, April 12 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers (Florida Marlins).
Minor League Baseball will be showcased every other weekend at Perdue Stadium in 2012. The Shorebirds have 11 Friday night games scheduled, 11 Saturday night games and nine Sunday games at Perdue Stadium in 2012.
The Shorebirds will host an Independence Day celebration on July 3, 2012. After the game against the West Virginia Power (Pirates) the Shorebirds will cap off the night with a patriotic fireworks extravaganza.
The 'Birds will play 14 home games in April, 14 home games in May, 13 home games in June, 16 home games in July and 13 home games in August. The season will conclude on September 3 on the road against West Virginia.
"We're looking forward to the 17th season of Shorebirds baseball in 2012," said Shorebirds GM Chris Bitters. "The schedule is packed with weekend dates which will feature all the promotions that fans have come to love including fireworks!"
The Shorebirds have numerous exciting series planned in 2012. They are scheduled to play the Lakewood BlueClaws (Phillies) 14 times at Perdue Stadium. They also have 11 games at home against the Washington Nationals affiliate, Hagerstown. The Shorebirds will host the Boston Red Sox affiliate, Greenville Drive, between April 24 and April 27.

The Shorebirds have eight home games remaining in the 2011 season. They have three more games left against the Lakewood BlueClaws from August 23 through August 25 and a five-game series against West Virginia from September 1 through September 5.
