Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

SALISBURY, MD - The Lakewood BlueClaws (31-26) continue to play good baseball as they shutout the Delmarva Shorebirds (20-38) 3-0 on Tuesday. The BlueClaws got another nice performance from their starting pitcher, and the bullpen was great again in the win. Four pitchers combined on the shutout for Lakewood. It was a wild day that saw a 5.9 earthquake shake the Salisbury, MD area. Then, the LF Light Pole at Perdue Stadium wouldn't turn on which delayed First Pitch by 10 minutes. The same light pole went out in the 4th inning delaying the game again by 17 minutes.

It was not a slugfest with the two teams combining for only 9 hits, but Lakewood made their 6 hits count. Delmarva pitching walked 6, hit 3, and committed 2 errors to aid the Lakewood cause. Miguel Alvarez was 3-4 out the 8th spot in the lineup, and Jim Murphy was 2-3 with 2 singles and 2 walks. Bill Rice had the only other hit for the BlueClaws.

Ervis Manzanillo only needed 1 run as he was very good allowing just 2 hits and 3 walks over 5.1 shutout innings. He earned the win to improve to 8-6. Chase Johnson, Jay Johnson, and Tyler Knigge combined to throw 3.2 scoreless innings in relief, with Knigge earning his 4th save of the year.

Wednesday the BlueClaws will try to make it 4 straight wins and take a 3-0 lead in the series over Delmarva. LHP Jesse Biddle (6-8, 3.06 ERA) will start for Lakewood in game 3, and Delmarva will send out RHP David Baker (3-3, 2.76 ERA). First Pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm.
