BlueClaws Shutout Shorebirds 3-0 in Game Two

Salisbury, Md. - Four Lakewood BlueClaws pitchers combined to hold the Delmarva Shorebirds to just three hits in a 3-0 win on Tuesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Lakewood took a 2-0 lead in the third inning. Jim Murphy singled home Bill Rice, who reached on a walk to open the inning. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded, Zach Collier was hit by a Matt Bywater pitch, which forced in Carlos Alonso.

The BlueClaws added an unearned run in the sixth inning against Tim Adleman. Miguel Alvarez hit a one out single. He stole second base and reached third on a single by Edgar Duran. Then, with two outs, Garabez Rosa mishandled a ground ball by Drew Hillman, allowing Alvarez to score.

The Shorebirds were shutout for a ninth time this season. Jeremy Nowak was the lone player with multiple hits. He singled in the sixth and ninth innings. Michael Ohlman was the only other player with a hit.

Lakewood starter Ervis Manzanillo earned the win over 5.1 innings. He surrendered just two hits. Chase Johnson, Jay Johnson and Tyler Knigge held the Shorebirds to one hit over the final 3.2 innings.

Shorebirds starter Matt Bywater was tagged with the loss over four innings. He gave up just three hits, but walked five batters.

Tim Adleman did not allow an earned run over four solid relief innings. He allowed just three hits and struck out four. Ryan Palsha tossed a flawless ninth inning.

The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play game three of the series on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP David Baker is the scheduled starter for the Shorebirds.
