Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Cedar Rapids Kernels announced that LHP Joe Torres will be placed on the 7-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, May 31st, due to lower back stiffness. Torres arrived in Cedar Rapids from Rancho Cucamonga of the California League on Tuesday and has not pitched for the Kernels in 2005.
His roster spot will be filled by RHP Frederic DeLoizaga-Carney, who comes off the disabled list after going on May 17th with a hip injury. Before going on the disabled list DeLoizaga-Carney had been the team's most consistent pitcher out of the bullpen and had assumed the role of closer with the injury of Mitch Arnold in April. DeLoizaga-Carney is 0-0 with a 2.12 ERA and 6 saves.
Because the move is retroactive to Tuesday, Torres will be eligible to come off the DL on Tuesday, June 7th, for the Kernels' fourth and final game in South Bend.
