Toronto Marlies News Release

The Abbotsford Heat, AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, defeated the Toronto Marlies by a score of 3-0 tonight from British Columbia.

After 40 minutes of scoreless hockey, Steve McCarthy notched his first goal of the season with Abbotsford shorthanded early in the third period. McCarthy picked up a pass off the boards from teammate Carter Bancks and slid the puck through the five-hole of goaltender Ben Scrivens. Ben Street would add another shorthanded tally three seconds later on a strange bounce off the ensuing face-off. Sven Baertschi added an empty net goal to secure the win for Abbotsford.

The two teams will square off again tomorrow night from the Abbotsford Sports and Entertainment Centre. The game can be heard live on TSN 1050 with puck drop set for 10 p.m. eastern.
