Amerks Edge Dogs 3-2 In A Shootout

Rochester, New York - The Rochester Americans defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-2 in a shootout at Blue Cross Arena on Friday night. The Amerks scored three goals on four shots in the shootout to clinch the victory.

The Amerks opened the scoring at 6:31 of the opening frame on a goal by Zemgus Girgensons, his first professional goal. Alex Biega sent a big blast from right point towards the net and the puck dribbled off Girgensons in front and bounced past Hamilton Bulldogs starting goaltender Robert Mayer.

The Americans doubled their lead at 2:02 of the third stanza on a powerplay marker by Kevin Porter. The shot came from the inside of the faceoff circle and was redirected in front of Mayer and trickled over the goal line.

The 'Dogs got on the board just 41 seconds later at 2:43 of the third period on a goal by Brendan Gallagher. Brendon Nash sent a shot from right point, which Gallagher tipped in front of the net through legs of Rochester Americans starting goaltender David Leggio.

The Bulldogs tied the game at 15:39 of the third frame on a goal by Darryl Boyce. After Frederic St-Denis took a shot from the point, Boyce knocked in the rebound for his first goal as a Hamilton Bulldog.

After a scoreless overtime, the Amerks defeated the 'Dogs 3-1 in the shootout to win the game 3-2. Phil Varone, Brian Flynn and Marcus Foligno scored for the Americans while Boyce scored the lone goal in the shootout for the Bulldogs. The shots finished 36-31 for Rochester.

The Bulldogs' next game is tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. vs. the Americans at Copps Coliseum. All 'Dogs games during the month of November will be broadcast on Hamilton's Funny 820 (AM 820), with select games simulcast on Montreal's TSN Radio 690 (AM 690). Fans can also listen to and watch all 'Dogs games on www.hamiltonbulldogs.com. Live coverage with the broadcast team of Play-By-Play Announcer Derek Wills (all home and away games) and Colour Commentator Al Craig (all home and select away games) will begin with the Pioneer Pre-Game Show 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time.
