Albany Devils News Release

ALBANY, NY -- For nearly 65 minutes, the Albany Devils controlled play in the their own zone and in the Connecticut Whale's end. However, after outshooting their opponent nearly 4-to-1 the Devils fell, 2-1, in a shootout Friday at Times Union Center in front of 5,324 fans.

Mattias Tedenby scored 4:30 into the game when he fought free during a neutral-zone face off. His backhand attempt snuck past Connecticut's Cameron Talbot at the far post. David Wohlberg picked up the assist.

Despite owning a 41-15 shot advantage after three periods, the Devils found themselves all square because Connecticut's Christian Thomas scored off a one-timer at 18:05 of the first.

From there neither team found the back of the net until Connecticut's Matt Gilroy scored the lone shootout goal in the first round.

At the end of the night, the Devils owned a 44-16 shoot advantage, but went 0-for-7 on the power play. The Whale were held scoreless with the man advantage, going 0-for-3.

Jeff Frazee finished with 14 saves. He is now 1-1-1 on the season. At the other end, Talbot made 43 saves to improve to 3-0-0.

Game two of the Time Warner Cable Cup takes place Saturday when the Devils travel to the Adirondack Phantoms at 7 pm. Albany leads the series after defeating Adirondack, 5-1, last Friday.
