Hogs Stumble in 6-3 Loss to Chicago
November 2, 2012 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Rockford IceHogs News Release
Rockford, Ill. - In their first two meetings of the season, the Rockford IceHogs and Chicago Wolves put up nine goals combined. The two clubs doubled that output on Friday, as the IceHogs saw their four game winning streak snapped in a 6-3 loss to the Wolves at the BMO Harris Bank Center.
Chicago opened the scoring as Alex Gordon solved Carter Hutton 4:34 into the first period and made it 1-0. Jordan Schroeder and Brad Hunt added with helpers on the play.
The IceHogs responded as Kyle Beach put the Hogs on the board with 3:32 left in the opening frame. Beach ripped a shot over the right shoulder of Wolves' netminder Eddie Lack with help coming from Rob Flick and Philippe Paradis.
But two minutes later, Chicago regained the lead when Brett Sterling lit the lamp. Chris Tanev dished the puck to Sterling, and he scored his second goal of the season to lift the Wolves to a 2-1 advantage.
Chicago started to pull away in the middle frame, rattling off two markers before the IceHogs could respond. Schroeder finished a Tim Miller feed to increase the Wolves lead to 3-1 at 2:46.
Then, Bill Sweatt chased Hutton from the game as he extended the Wolves advantage to 4-1 at 10:08 in the middle frame. Peter Andersson fired a puck at the IceHogs net that Hutton turned away, but Sweatt was there to tap it in.
Rockford tried to muster a comeback as Brandon Pirri found the back of the net on a power play. Marcus Kruger fed Pirri in the slot and the pivot buried his team-leading fourth goal of the season to make it a 4-2 game at 13:35.
The Wolves had an answer for any momentum the IceHogs gained and pushed the score to 5-2. Chris Tanev finished an odd man rush with Steve Pinnizzotto at 10:31 in the final frame.
With under five minutes to play, Beach trickled in his second goal of the night with a shot from the right faceoff circle to cut the lead back down to a pair at 5-3.
But Andrew Ebbett shut the door with a goal a minute and half later as he was set up by Mike Davies, giving the Wolves a 6-3 win.
Hutton turned away 10 of the 14 chances he saw before Alec Richards replaced him, stopping 9-of-11 attempts. Lack earned the win for Chicago, blocking 29 of Rockford's 32 shots.
Next Home Game: Saturday, Nov. 3 vs. Lake Erie. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The IceHogs clash with the Lake Erie Monsters for the first of four meetings on the campaign. It's Bobblehead Election Night as fans will have a choice between either a President Obama or Mitt Romney bobblehead. There will be 2,000 of each candidate given away thanks to WIFR and Dental Dimensions and the first to run out will be declared the straw poll winner.
