Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Albuquerque Isotopes (28-22) set a franchise-record with nine doubles as they captured a 7-4 victory against the Oklahoma City RedHawks (28-21) on Saturday night at Isotopes Park. The win puts the 'Topes only half a game in back of the visiting RedHawks in the PCL American Southern Division.

It was a see-saw battle through the first few innings as each team traded a run in the first before OKC took a one-run lead in the fourth off a double from J.B. Shuck, who advanced to third on a grounder to short and scored on a misplayed ball from Alex Castellanos, making the score 2-1, 'Hawks.

Albuquerque then claimed its first lead of the night beginning with back-to-back doubles from Tim Federowicz and Brian Cavazos-Galvez, tying the game 2-2. Following the 'Topes' offensive theme of the night, Oeljten lifted another double to score Cavazos-Galvez and give the Isotopes a 3-2 edge.

However, the lead wouldn't last as the RedHawks rallied in the fifth when Brad Snyder poked a single to center, stole second and advanced to third on a grounder to the right side. Brett Wallace then tied the game, slapping an RBI single to center to score Snyder and even the score 3-3.

The Isotopes took the lead for good in the fifth, as Jeff Baisley blasted a solo home run to left, his second in as many nights, to give the 'Topes a 4-3 edge.

Albuquerque poured on three more runs in the sixth beginning with Cavazos-Galvez reaching on a booted ball at first and advancing to third on a double from Tyler Henson. Pinch-hitter Josh Fields then stepped in for his only at-bat of the night, smashing a deep sac-fly to center to plate Cavazos-Galvez and extending the lead 5-3. With one out and a runner on second, Oeltjen ripped an RBI single that scored Henson and increased the 'Topes advantage 6-3. Aaron Miles followed with a single of his own, and Castellanos, who was playing in his first game since coming off the DL, collected his second double of the night to score Miles and give Albuquerque a 7-3 lead.

Oklahoma City inched closer with a run in the seventh but Albuquerque closer Josh Wall (11) slammed the door, retiring the side in the ninth to close out a 7-4 'Topes win.

'Topes starter John Ely (4-3) picked up the win, increasing his perfect record at Isotopes Park to 3-0 this season.

The 'Topes final series of the homestand continues tomorrow against first place Oklahoma City. First pitch is slated for 7:05 PM as Isotopes lefty Michael Antonini (1-2, 5.31) gets the ball against RedHawks righty Paul Clemens (5-3, 5.84).

The Isotopes 12-game homestand rolls on with an unforgettable Memorial Day Weekend as Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Matt Kemp and outfielder Juan Rivera are both scheduled to appear tomorrow and Monday as part of their Major League Rehabilitation Assignments. The series also includes the second of back-to-back fireworks shows and a camo jersey auction.
