Oklahoma City Comets News Release
Albuquerque, N.M. - The Albuquerque Isotopes (28-22) set a franchise record with nine doubles as part of their 14-hit attack as they beat the Oklahoma City RedHawks (28-21) 7-4 before 7,281 Saturday night at Isotopes Park.
Each team scored in the first inning. Scott Moore gave the RedHawks the early advantage with a sac fly, but Jeff Baisley responded with an RBI double
The RedHawks regained the lead in the fourth after a two-out error by Alex Castellanos. However, the Isotopes jumped out front for the first time after hitting three doubles in the bottom of the inning to plate two runs.
The lead didn't last long, as Brett Wallace tied the game with a two-out RBI single in the top of the fifth to knot the score at 3-3.
Baisley homered for the second straight night in the bottom of the inning, putting Albuquerque back ahead 4-3.
The Isotopes started to take control with a three-run sixth inning. Josh Fields hit a sac fly, Trent Oeltjen hit an RBI single, and Castellanos knocked an RBI double to finish the rally.
Landon Powell drew a bases loaded walk the seventh to pull the RedHawks back within 7-4. With a limited bench, the RedHawks were forced to allow relief pitcher Adalberto Flores to hit with the bases still loaded and two outs. He eventually struck out, keeping the RedHawks down by three.
The RedHawks finished the night just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners on base.
Oeltjen, Castellanos, and Tim Federowicz each collected two doubles apiece as the Isotopes piled up 10 extra-base hits.
Albuquerque pitcher John Ely turned in his sixth consecutive quality start while earning the win. Ely (4-3) allowed three runs-two earned-over six innings with seven hits, two walks, and seven strikeouts.
Wes Musick (0-1) took his first loss since joining the RedHawks. The lefty surrendered six runs and 11 hits over 5.2 innings. He struck out four and walked two.
With the win, the Isotopes pull back within a half-game of the RedHawks for first place in the American Southern division.
