Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

Down seven runs at one point, the Albuquerque Isotopes (59-58) inched back to within two but couldn't get over the hump as the Salt Lake Bees (54-63) held on for a 9-6 win Monday night at Isotopes Park.

Salt Lake grabbed a lead in the top of the second when Paul McAnulty led off with a single and advanced to second on a single by Jeremy Moore to put runners on first and second with one out for Freddy Sandoval, who laced a base hit through the hole at second base, scoring McAnulty and giving the Bees a 1-0 lead. With runners on the corners and one out, catcher Tim Federowicz attempted to catch Sandoval napping at first base with a snap throw, but as the catcher fired to first, Moore came streaking to the plate from third. First baseman Jerry Sands fired right back to the plate, but the toss sailed wide as Moore slid home to make the score 2-0 Bees.

Albuquerque answered with a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by A.J. Ellis, but Salt Lake got the run right back in the top of the fourth on a solo blast by McAnulty that gave the Bees a 3-1 edge.

Salt Lake would blow the game open in the fifth, scoring five times on an RBI single by Reggie Willits, an RBI double by Jeff Baisley and a three-run blast from McAnulty, his second homer in as many at-bats, to seize a commanding 8-1 lead.

Trailing by seven, the plucky Isotopes started their comeback immediately, as Justin Sellers led off the bottom of the inning with a double, advanced to third on a groundout, and scored on another groundout by Federowicz to make the score 8-2, Bees. With two down and the bases empty, Joe Becker kept the inning going with a two-out double before being cashed in by a double from Brad Coon to bring Albuquerque to within five at 8-3.

The ‚¬ËœTopes kept plugging away in the seventh, when Federowicz hammered his third Triple-A home run to left field, a solo shot that cut the Salt Lake to four at 8-4. All of Federowicz's hits in an Isotopes uniform have been home runs.

Albuquerque mounted another uprising in the eighth, thanks to another big hit from Sellers. With runners on the corners and two down, Sellers smashed a double into the gap in left-center, plating Jay Gibbons from third and Jamie Hoffmann all the way from first to bring to the ‚¬ËœTopes back to within just two tallies at 8-6.

That's as close as the home team would get, however, as the Bees added an insurance run in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Baisley before reliever Ryan Brasier retired the ‚¬ËœTopes one-two-three in the bottom of the ninth to seal the 9-6 win.

The Isotopes will look to get back in the win column on Tuesday with right-hander Mike Parisi (2-1, 7.88) on the mound taking on Bees righty Matt Palmer (7-9, 6.79) in a 7:05 PM first pitch from Isotopes Park.

Albuquerque's big homestand rolls on Tuesday with the third of four straight games against Salt Lake, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles of Anaheim. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
