Brandon Dickson Named PCL Pitcher of the Week

MEMPHIS, TN - The Pacific Coast League announced today Memphis Redbirds pitcher Brandon Dickson has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week from August 1 to August 7.
Dickson turned in two solid performances this past week on August 2 against the Iowa Cubs and August 7 at Colorado Springs. He allowed only three runs on 13 hits in 15.0 innings pitched over the two starts. He walked two and fanned seven overall for a 1-0 record and 1.80 ERA. Dickson currently ranks second in strikeouts for the Redbirds with 98 and leads the team with 133.2 innings pitched.
The 26-year-old is in his sixth year of professional baseball and his second year with the Memphis Redbirds. Dickson made his major league debut with the St. Louis Cardinals earlier this season on July 2. The tall right-hander made two appearances as a Cardinal, tossing 4.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen, walking two and striking out two.
The Alabama native is the second Redbird given PCL Player of the Week honors this season, joining Andrew Brown who received the honor for the week of May 23-29. This is also Dickson's second time winning the award, earning the title last year August 23-29. He was signed by St. Louis as a non-drafted free agent out of Tusculum College on August 10, 2006. The Pioneer product is scheduled to pitch Saturday, August 13 at AutoZone Park against Tucson.
The Memphis Redbirds begin a eight-game homestand against the Tucson Padres (San Diego Padres affiliate) and the Las Vegas 51's (Toronto Blue Jays affiliate) Friday, August 12 with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. The homestand will wrap up on Friday, August 19 with an appearance by the ZOOperstars!
