PCL1 Albuquerque Isotopes

'Topes and Cubs Suspended

July 30, 2010 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

An intense rain storm interrupted the top half of the first inning in the final game of a four-game series between the Albuquerque Isotopes (53-51) and the Iowa Cubs (59-47) on Friday night at Isotopes Park, causing the contest to be suspended due to unplayable field conditions with the Cubs holding a 4-0 lead with one out in the top of the first. The contest will be resumed on Tuesday, August 31 beginning at 4:00 PM and completed to nine innings before being followed by a seven-inning contest.

'Topes starting pitcher John Ely surrendered four quick runs, two on a double by Micah Hoffpauir and two more on a monstrous two-run blast by Cubs right fielder Ty Wright to put Iowa up 4-0. Mother Nature had different plans, however, as heavy rain fell on Isotopes Park and the surrounding area.

After a one hour and 28 minute delay, the umpiring crew examined the field and decided the field was too saturated to continue, suspending the contest.

Tickets for Friday's suspended game can be exchanged for a ticket of equal or lesser value to any remaining 2010 regular season home game but all exchanges must be made at the Isotopes Park Box Office.

The Isotopes now hit the road on Saturday for a quick four games series in New Orleans against the Zephyrs. Lefty Alberto Bastardo (4-2, 4.88) takes the mound for Albuquerque against Z's righty Tom Mastny in a 5:00 PM MT start from the Big Easy.

After four quick games in New Orleans, the 'Topes are right back home on August 4 for a big eight-game homestand against the Sacramento River Cats and Fresno Grizzlies that includes fireworks, and Breast Cancer Awareness Night. Tickets for any Isotopes game may be purchased at the Isotopes Park Box Office, at Ticketmaster outlets, by phone at 1-800-745-3000, or on-line at www.albuquerquebaseball.com or www.ticketmaster.com.
