Round Rock Express News Release
OKLAHOMA CITY - Ryan Garko's two-run double started a three-run first inning as the Oklahoma City RedHawks scored early and never trailed for the third straight night against the Round Rock Express, closing out a series sweep with a 4-1 victory Friday night at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. The Express (43-64) suffered their first four-game sweep of the season and have lost seven of eight. The RedHawks (57-48) lead the season series 10-2.
Craig Gentry was hit by a pitch to open the first, and Esteban German followed with a double down the left-field line. After Matt Brown struck out, Garko lined a double to left-center. Brandon Boggs capped the inning with an RBI double to left.
That was all the run support Oklahoma City starter Omar Beltre (2-7) would need. He allowed one run on two hits and two walks with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Tanner Scheppers worked 2.0 scoreless innings, allowing one hit with two strikeouts. Chris Strop earned his ninth save, tossing a perfect ninth with two strikeouts.
Polin Trinidad (3-8) suffered his sixth consecutive loss. He allowed four runs, three earned, on eight hits and a walk with three strikeouts over 5.0 innings. Chris Sampson, Jeff Fulchino and Casey Daigle each hurled a scoreless frame; the first two each had one strikeout.
Round Rock got on the board in the top of the second. Chris Shelton led off with a double to left and later scored on Edwin Maysonet's groundout.
That was the extent of the offense for the Express, who managed a season-low tying three hits. Matt Kata had a second-inning double, and German Duran led off the eighth with a single.
Oklahoma City added a run on two hits and an Express error in the fifth. Gregorio Petit had the run-scoring hit with a one-out single that plated Garko.
Boggs and Garko each had two hits, the latter scoring twice with two RBI.
Round Rock continues the road trip with a four-game series at Nashville. The series opens Saturday with a 6:35 p.m. CDT first pitch at Herschel Greer Stadium. Right-hander Josh Banks (8-7, 3.25 ERA) returns to the mound after taking a comebacker off the jaw that required stitches last Saturday against Iowa. Lefty Chase Wright (7-6, 4.56 ERA) is slated to start for the Sounds.
NOTE: OF Yordany Ramirez was sent to Class-A Lexington after Friday's game; he will begin work as a pitcher in the Astros organization.
