TONIGHT: The RedHawks seek their second series sweep of the season in the fourth game of this set against Round Rock. OKC took last night's contest 8-1, scoring 3 runs in the second inning and 5 in the sixth to move ahead 3-0 in the series. The RedHawks lead the season series 9-2 with another 4-game set remaining at The Dell Diamond Aug. 21-24. A win tonight would give the RedHawks their second sweep of the season, joining a 4-0 series win over New Orleans at The Brick June 15-17. OKC leads the American South by 3 games over Albuquerque, 4.5 over New Orleans and 14 over Round Rock. Omar Beltre gets the start against lefty Polin Trinidad.
DAVIS OPTIONED: First and third baseman Chris Davis was optioned by Texas following last night's game. Davis returns to the PCL second in batting (.354) behind John Lindsey of Albuquerque, (.381). Davis is eighth in on-base percentage (.403) and 10th in slugging (.555).
VINTAGE GERMAN: Esteban German has turned in three straight multiple-hit games since returning on Tuesday from the DL. German, who went 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs yesterday, is 7-for-13 with 5 RBIs since his return. He missed 11 games with a strained left hamstring, with OKC going 3-8 in his absence. German brings a personal season-best 8-game hitting streak into tonight, during which he's 15-for-34 (.441) with 9 RBIs.
BROWN'S STREAK REACHES 13: Matt Brown has hit safely in 13 straight games, going 18-for-51 (.353) with 1 homer and 7 RBIs. Brown's streak is the second-best by a RedHawk this year. Jarrod Saltalamacchia has the longest OKC hitting streak, 16 games, from April 21-May 11. Since returning from the DL July 1, Brown is batting .347 with 2 home runs and 10 RBIs.
BOGGS UPDATE: Brandon Boggs raised his on-base streak to 28 games yesterday. The current streak began June 21 and is the longest active on-base streak in the PCL. He has reached base by hit or walk in each of his last 51 starts beginning May 24, the only break in the streak a strikeout as a pinch hitter June 19. Boggs is third in the league in walks with 64.
PITCHING TIDBITS: Cody Eppley and Warner Madrigal combined for 3 scoreless innings out of the bullpen last night. The RedHawks are 24-16 when the bullpen does not allow a run. OKC is 2-0 when no relievers are used and 30-32 when the relief corps allows a run. Clay Rapada has the lowest opponents' batting average in the PCL among ERA qualifiers at .172 and the best ratio of base runners per 9 innings among PCL relievers at 8.74. Rapada has allowed 9 hits, all singles, against left-handed hitters, limiting them to a .115 average. Michael Kirkman lowered his ERA to 3.07 last night by allowing 1 run in 6 innings. His ERA remains fourth in the PCL. Kirkman also leads the league with 109 strikeouts. Kirkman's .233 opponents' batting average is second in the league among starters behind Thomas Diamond of Iowa (.218).
ERA LEAD: The RedHawks lead the PCL in team ERA at 3.73. Tacoma is second at 3.96. The RedHawks have allowed the fewest home runs (65) in Triple-A. OKC has also allowed the fewest runs (442) in the PCL and is second in strikeouts (772) behind Sacramento (796).
ODDS AND TRENDS: Craig Gentry has hit safely in 18 of 21 starts since returning from the DL July 7 and is batting .347 (33-for-95) in those games...Gentry has raised his average from .283 to .312 in that time and he has recorded 3 straight 2-hit games...Gregorio Petit has hits in 13 of 15 games since the All-Star Break, going 17-for-52 (.327)...yesterday's 8-1 win improved the RedHawks' record to 10-0 when scoring exactly 8 runs...the RedHawks have landed on 8 runs more than any other run total this season.
SEPT. 4 TIME CHANGE: The RedHawks' game on Saturday, Sept. 4 against Omaha has been changed to an 11:05 am start time at AT&T Bricktown Ballpark. Originally a night game, it was changed to avoid an expected evening start for the University of Oklahoma's football opener in Norman against Utah State.
