Angels Assign Houston to Salt Lake

SALT LAKE CITY (July 30, 2010) - The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced today that the club has signed right-handed pitcher Ryan Houston to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Salt Lake. He is expected to be available during tonight's home game against the Portland Beavers.

Houston, 30, appeared in 30 games for the Somerset Patriots of the Independent Atlantic League in 2010, owning a 2-2 record and converting all 18 save opportunities. In 2009, he appeared in 40 games for Triple-A Nashville, owning a 5-4 record with a 3.62 ERA and 42 strikeouts. The Pensacola, Fla. native was originally drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 31st round of the 1998 draft. He has appeared in 358 minor league games in 11 seasons, owning a career 43-41 record with a 4.08 ERA.
