Wheeling Nailers News Release
WHEELING, WV - Adam Henrich, Sean Collins and Ned Havern made it look easy again on Sunday Night. Havern scored twice, Henrich had a goal and an assist and Collins notched three helpers as Wheeling beat the Augusta Lynx 4-1 at WesBanco Arena.
Between those three players, they have accounted for 41% (13 of 32) of the Nailers goals and 41% (37 of 90) of the Nailers' total points this season. Collins leads the league with 14 assists but not scored a goal yet this season.
Havern was the first one on the board with a goal 2:44 into the first. It was the second game in a row that the Nailers have scored in the first four minutes of the game. Henrich and Collins picked up assists as their passes sprung Havern on a breakaway, beating J.P. Levasseur on Wheeling's first shot on goal.
The score remained 1-0 through the rest of the first period. Augusta tied the game at the 1:59 mark of the second to being a string of three goals in 43 seconds. Aaron Slattengren picked up his fifth of the year by sneaking one through the pads of David Brown. Wheeling responded 20 seconds later with Paul Bissonnette feeding Henrich on the doorstep for his team-leading seventh goal of the season. Before the announcement of the goal was even finished Havern wristed one past Levasseur to increase the lead to two. Collins won a race for the puck inside the Lynx zone and slid it to Havern alone in the slot.
The game settled down after that. Aaron Boogaard notched his second in as many games with a slap shot at 9:27 of the second for the games final goal.
Brown made the offense stand up by stopping 35 of 36 total shots on goal. He picked up his third win as a professional and earned the number two star of the game.
Wheeling returns to the ice on Friday night in Cincinnati for their second meeting of the season with the Cyclones. Their next home game is on Wednesday, November 21 for a WesBanco Wednesday against the Dayton Bombers. Game time is at 7:05p.m.
