Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla. (May 5, 2014) - Miracle starter Matt Tomshaw delivered six quality innings and Fort Myers edged the Bradenton Marauders, 3-2, on Monday evening at Hammond Stadium.
The Miracle opened the scoring early in the first inning. Levi Michael led off with an infield single, but was deleted off the base path on a fielder's choice hit into by Aderling Mejia. With Byron Buxton at the plate, Mejia swiped second base. After Glasnow struck out Buxton, the Pirates No. 3 prospect walked Travis Harrison. Mike Gonzales then lifted a 1-0 pitch over left fielder Raul Fortunato's head to the wall. Mejia and Harrison scored standing to give the Miracle a 2-0 lead.
Two Marauder errors in the third inning helped the Miracle score a third run. Michael again reached base to lead off an inning, but this time on an error by second baseman Max Moroff. With Mejia at the dish, Michael stole second. Then, Mejia laid down a sacrifice bunt. Glasnow fielded the ball, but slipped and threw wildly to first. Already advancing to third on the bunt, Michael trotted home, 3-0.
In six innings, Tomshaw (1-1) allowed just one unearned run on six hits with two strikeouts. Bradenton's only run against Tomshaw came in the fourth inning on a two-out RBI single by Jeff Roy. Tomshaw then picked off Roy in a rundown that went 1-4-3-6-1-8-3.
Mason Melotakis entered in the seventh inning and retired seven in a row until giving up a double to Eric Wood in the ninth inning. The Marauders loaded the bases on Melotakis and Doug Mientkiewicz went to the bullpen. Madison Boer took over and allowed one inherited runner to score on a bases loaded walk, but recorded the final two outs to record the save; his fourth of the season.
The Miracle (17-14) and Marauders (16-15) play the rubber match of a three-game series on Tuesday at Hammond Stadium with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. Fans can pick up a copy of the Naples Daily News for a special two-for-one ticket offer.
