Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, OH) A standing room only crowd of 8,300 watched the Utah Grizzlies snap Toledo's six game winning streak 5-3 Saturday night at the Huntington Center. Toledo has an overall record of 23-11-1-3 and 10-5-0-1 at home. The two teams will finish the weekend Sunday evening.

For a second consecutive night the Grizzlies scored the first goal as Josh Macdonald beat Walleye goaltender Jake Paterson with a wrist shot at 13:16 of the first period. As has been the case most of the year, Toledo dominated play in the second period. After Utah made it 2-0, Dominic Zombo at 10:44 fed a pass in front of the Grizzlies that Austin Wuthrich deflected in for his 8th goal of the year.

The Walleye would even the score at two when Ralfs Freibergs (2nd) fired in a rebound from an A.J. Jenks shot at 12:11 of the period. Just 1:55 into the third Jenks fed a pass across the front of the Utah net that Evan Rankin (4th) went top shelf with his wrist shot to give the Walleye a 3-2 lead.

The Rankin goal was his 69th in a Walleye uniform which ties him with Kyle Rogers for the most goals in Walleye history. The lead didn't last long as defenseman Eric Knodel tied the score at 5:18 of the third period. Utah took the lead for good on wrist shot from the left circle of the Toledo zone from Marc Cantin at 15:18.

Walleye Notes: Goaltender Jake Paterson stopped 18 of 22 shots he faced and has a record of 5-7-1-1 on the season. Shane Berschbach extended his point streak to eight consecutive games (7G, 8A) with his two assists in the second period. The two assists for A.J. Jenks pushed his point streak to six consecutive games (4G, 7A). Tonight's sellout crowd was the 9th of the season.
