Quad City Mallards News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Rhett Bly scored and added an assist, Cody Sharib piled up three assists and Shane Owen made 27 saves as the host Indy Fuel (20-20-2) completed a two-game weekend sweep and moved past the Quad City Mallards (19-18-3) into second place in the ECHL's Midwest Division by defeating the Mallards 3-1 Saturday night.

Matt While pounced on a loose puck in the slot to give the Fuel a 2-0 lead at 4:10 of the third period with what would prove to be the game winning goal. Ryan Tesink's drive from the high slot brought the Mallards back within one just under two minutes later, but the Mallards were unable to produce an equalizer before Bly clinched victory for Indy with an empty net goal in the final minute.

The Fuel never relinquished the lead after Michael Colantone roofed the game's first goal from the side of the net at 10:33 of the first period.

The Mallards prior to the game signed Jamie Morris as an emergency backup goaltender after netminder Steve Michalek was recalled from the Mallards by the American Hockey League's Iowa Wild earlier Saturday. Morris, 42, played for the Central Hockey League's Indianapolis Ice for four seasons from 1999 to 2003 before retiring. The Winnipeg native tended goal collegiately at Rochester Institute of Technology.

The Mallards return to action on the road next Friday night against the Kalamazoo Wings. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday, February 3 at 6:35 p.m. against the Rapid City Rush.

Single game tickets for all Mallards regular season home games- including the February 3 contest- are on sale now at the iWireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets, ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
