Toledo Walleye News Release
TOLEDO - The Toledo Walleye revealed the two jerseys the team will wear at the first-ever ECHL outdoor hockey games that will be played during Toledo Walleye Winterfest presented by ProMedica in December 2014. The jerseys were unveiled on the ice at the Huntington Center during the Winterfest Gala event.
Walleye Winterfest is a 10-day community event that begins next December 26, 2014 and runs through January 4, 2015. The 2014 games are slated for December 27 and December 30, in downtown Toledo, at Fifth Third Field.
The two jerseys draw inspiration from old school hockey, when it was played outdoors, with their classic look. Manager of Creative Services and jersey designer, Dan Royer, wanted these jerseys to be different and unique since they are making ECHL history.
He describes the two jerseys: "Using vintage white as the main jersey color gives it a classic feel. The standard athletic lettering helps reinforce that. We chose the authentic fish logo for the crest for two reasons, one- this Walleye logo has the most vintage feel and two- it's a fan favorite."
"The second jersey blends vintage hockey style with today's contemporary Walleye look. We started by using the team's midnight blue color but added the vintage white as an accent to give it a vintage feel. To continue the retro feel we added stripping around the middle. (Modern jerseys often put the stripping around the elbows and bottom.) The final touches included using the animated fish design in a classic hockey style crest."
The Winterfest jerseys are currently available for the public to purchase at the Swamp Shop. Fans can call 1-800-736-9520 or online at www.toledowalleye.com/swampshop.
The Toledo Walleye face the Evansville IceMen at 7:15 on Saturday, November 23. Come early to support the Toledo Police and Fire Departments as they hit the ice for the third annual "Battle of the Badges" game. Game time is at 4 p.m. Tickets are available at a special rate for both games. Plus a portion of each ticket sold will benefit Police and Fire Charities.
