LOVELAND, Colo. - A late rally by the Colorado Eagles (7-3-2) came up short, as the Las Vegas Wranglers (5-9-0) held on for a 5-3 win at the Budweiser Events Center on Wednesday night.

Wranglers forward Adam Hughesman found the back of the net from the top of the circle off of the face-off to get Las Vegas on the board less than one minute into the first period. Despite the Eagles outshooting the Wranglers 12-7 in the first period, Las Vegas was able to head to the locker room with a 2-0 lead after forward Cody Purves sank another puck into the net with less than a minute left in the period.

Defenseman Jeff May was the third Wrangler to put a puck past Eagles goaltender Adam Brown with a shot from the point to give Las Vegas a 3-0 advantage only 3:08 into the second. Colorado forward Luke Fulghum created a breakaway off a turnover and beat Las Vegas goaltender Mitch O'Keefe upstairs 6:29 into the stanza to minimize the Las Vegas lead, 3-1. However, Wranglers forward Carlo Finucci took advantage of a Las Vegas power play later in the period and pumped the Wranglers lead to 4-1.

With just over seven minutes left in the contest, Hughesman scored his second goal of the night to up the Wranglers lead, 5-1. However, less than two minutes later, Colorado forward Alex Hudson made a strong move down the left wing, beating Las Vegas' O'Keefe down low to close the gap to 5-2. Eagles forward Kyle Ostrow would then shave the Wranglers lead down to 5-3 with a power-play goal with two minutes left in the game. The Eagles then pulled Brown in favor of the extra attacker, but were unable to convert, eventually falling by a count of 5-3

The same two teams will meet-up again on Friday and Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center, with both games starting at 7:05pm.
