Elmira Jackals News Release
ELMIRA, N.Y. - November 21, 2013 - The Elmira Jackals announced today that rookie defenseman Troy Rutkowski has been reassigned to the club by the National Hockey League's Ottawa Senators from Binghamton of the American Hockey League.
Troy Rutkowski returns for his second stint with the Jackals.
Rutkowski, 21, began the season with Binghamton and played in four contests. He scored his first professional goal with the Senators on October 20, 2013 against Bridgeport. Rutkowski was reassigned by Ottawa to Elmira and played three games for the Jackals. The rookie defenseman was then recalled by Ottawa to Binghamton on November 3. He appeared in two more contests with Binghamton. This will be his second stint with the Jackals.
Rutkowski signed with Ottawa as a free agent on March 14, 2013. He ranked second among WHL defensemen in assists and points and was third in goals during the 2012-13 season for the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL. The Edmonton native was originally drafted by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2010 National Hockey League Entry Draft, but did not sign with the team.
Rutkowski has arrived in Elmira and is expected to be available to play in this week's three-in-three against the Kalamazoo Wings at First Arena.
Mark your calendars! The Jackals return home on November 22, 2013 to take on the Kalamazoo Wings at 7:05 p.m. The Jackals and the Southern Tier Tobacco Awareness Community Partnership will be celebrating the Great American Smokeout. As a part of the celebration fans who throw away at least a half pack of cigarettes or half tin of chewing tobacco at the box office at Friday's Jackals game will get $2 off of their walk up ticket. Don't forget that groups of 10 or more who book in advance receive discounts off the box office price and preferred seating based on availability. Call 607-734-7825 to get your group outing booked.
