INDIANAPOLIS -- Toledo scored four times in the top of the fifth and cruised to a 6-1 victory over Indianapolis Monday night at Victory Field.

The Mud Hens improve to 12-13 and pull to within one game of the International League West Divison-leading Tribe. The Indians, meanwhile, fall to 13-12 on the season.

Toledo broke open the scoreless affair with four runs on four hits in the fifth. C Brian Peterson and 2B Kevin Hooper opened the frame with back-to-back singles before LF Ryan Rayburn moved both runners into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.

RF Ryan Ludwick followed with a sac fly to bring home the game's first run. DH Josh Phelps then managed an RBI single to right, while SS Don Kelly added a two-run base knock to the same spot.

The Mud Hens added a pair of insurance runs in the seventh. Phelps roped a double to center field and Kelly walked before Hessman smoked a two-run double to right field.

Indianapolis cracked the scoreboard in the eighth when CF Rajai Davis brought home 1B Chris Richard with a single to left.

Hooper registered three hits, while Ludwick, Phelps and Kelly collected two base knocks apiece for the visitors. Davis notched a 2-for-4 game with the Tribe's lone RBI.

Indianapolis RHP Britt Reames (5.0 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 3 SO), who entered the contest third in the league with a 1.16 ERA, was pinned with his first loss of the campaign.

Toledo RHP Tony Fiore (2.0 IP, 2 SO) picked up the win, while RHP Chris Spurling (1.1 IP, 1 H, 1 SO) recorded the save.

The game was delayed 62 minutes at the outset due to rain.

The two clubs return to Victory Field Tuesday morning at 11 a.m., for the two-game series finale. LHP Tom Gorzelanny is scheduled to start for the Indians, while LHP Wilfredo Ledezma is expected to get the nod for the Mud Hens.

The game will be carried by ESPN-950 AM and IndyIndians.com as Howard Kellman and Scott McCauley have the call. Tuesday's pre-game show begins at 10:40 a.m.
