
Lerew hits and pitches Braves to win

Richmond, VA - The Richmond Braves beat the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Red Barons 3-1 at The Diamond Monday. Braves pitcher Anthony Lerew led the way both offensively and defensively as the Braves won for the fourth time in five games.
The Braves took a 1-0 lead in the fourth on a majestic home run by Scott Thorman. Richmond opened up a 3-0 lead in the fifth. Lerew singled and scored on a fielder's choice ground ball by Thorman. Cesar Crespo scored on a throwing error. The Barons pushed a run across in the eighth on an RBI single by Danny Sandoval.
Lerew pitched seven shutout innings, the longest performance by a Braves starter this season. He allowed only two hits. Lerew also had two hits and a stolen base. Chad Paronto picked up the save. Matt White took the loss. Lerew was the only player with more than one hit in the game.
The Braves conclude their homestand Tuesday vs. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre at 2 PM. Following the Braves game there will be a benefit celebrity softball game featuring recording artist Nelly, Hall of Fame shortstop Ozzie Smith, Falcons quarterback Michael Vick, and NBA player Steve Francis. Brian O'Connor will pitch for Richmond against Cole Hamels.
