Toledo Walleye News Release

(Toledo, Ohio) The Toledo Storm (4-2-0) and the Florida Everblades (4-2-0) had never met in a regular season game, and in the inaugural meeting between the two clubs on Friday night, the Everblades gave the Storm its first home loss of the 2006-2007 season, a 4-1 defeat at the Toledo Sports Arena.

"It certainty was a disappointing out to say the least," said Head Coach Nick Vitucci. "Tonight we were victim of a great goaltending performance, and being a former goaltender that is tough to watch from 200 feet. We followed an inconsistent first with a great second and we should have held a big lead."

Derek Damon tallied a late goal at the 19:39 mark of the first period to give the Everblades a 1-0 lead after the opening frame. Dominic Vicari stopped 10 of 11 shots in the first period, before being lifted in the first intermission due to an injury. Toledo would tie it, though, with the lone goal in the second period scored by Matt Zultek. Zultek's second of the season was assisted by Jamie Tardif and Andrew Martin with 8:05 left in the second period, and tied the game at 1 through forty minutes.

The Everblades, however, dominated the third period. Mike Angelidis scored the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning goal, at the 8:23 mark of the third, with assists going to Brent McDonald and Brett Peterson. Florida added 2 insurance markers, Reggie Berg at 15:01 and Brent McDonald at 17:21, to give the Everblades a 4-1 victory.

Craig Kowalski turned aside 36 Toledo shots to earn his first victory of the 2006-2007 season. Logan Koopmans, who relieved Vicari in the second period, allowed 3 goals on 19 shots in his 40 minutes of work in a losing effort.

The Storm continue the weekend homestand, as the Cincinnati Cyclones make their first regular season visit to Toledo Sports Arena with a 7:35pm opening face-off. The Cyclones are the only other team to hand Toledo a loss this season, and in the previous meeting provided plenty of physical play. 46 minutes of penalties were given out that night, and Nick Parillo received a 2-game suspension for fighting with Cyclones Matt McDonald.
