Gladiators Fretter Named CCM Vector ECHL Rookie Of The Month

PRINCETON, N.J. - Colton Fretter of the Gwinnett Gladiators is the CCM Vector ECHL Rookie of the Month for October.

Selected in the eighth round (230th overall) by Atlanta in the 2002 National Hockey League Draft and under American Hockey League contract to the Chicago Wolves, the 24-year-old has scored in each of his first five professional games, earning ECHL Player of the Week honors for Oct. 23-29 after scoring seven points (5g-2a) in three games.

Fretter scored his first professional hat trick with four goals, including the game winner, in a 6-3 win at South Carolina on Oct. 29 after registering an assist in a 4-0 win against Columbia on Oct. 28 and two points (1g-1a) in a 8-3 win at South Carolina on Oct. 27. He has scored in each of his first six professional games, including multiple point games on Oct. 27 (1g-1a) and Oct. 29 (4g-0a) and he registered his first goal on the power play at Augusta on Oct. 21.

The 5-foot-10 and 187-pound Fretter leads ECHL rookies with six goals and nine points and is tied for the rookie lead with one game-winning goal. Overall in the league he is tied for third in goals, tied for fourth in game-winning goals and tied for seventh in scoring.

The native of Harrow, Ontario played four seasons at Michigan State University where he had 112 points (43g-69a) in 159 games, including career bests in 2004-05 when he had 20 goals, 24 assists and 44 points in 40 games.
