Lynx, Ice Pilots kick off weekend series tonight
November 3, 2006 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
Pensacola, FL - The Augusta Lynx resume game action this weekend with a pair of contests against the winless Pensacola Ice Pilots Friday and Saturday at 8:05 pm EST.
Entering the game at 0-7-0, the Ice Pilots are still looking for that first taste of victory, having lost each game by at least two goals thus far. This season Pensacola has been out scored 32-15, with deficits of 12-6 in the first period and 12-4 in the second. To that end, the Ice Pilots made a coaching change Friday morning, naming assistant coach Joe Clark as interim head coach and moving George DuPont to director of hockey operations.
For Augusta, rookie goaltender Dave McKee has posted a 2-0-0 record to start the year with a 2.81 GAA and .924 save percentage. Also off to a good start is captain Ryan Lang, who leads the offense with three goals and five points in four games. The Lynx have nine players who have scored a goal in their first four games and look to continue to spread the offense around against Pensacola.
"We have to play smart," said Lynx head coach and director of hockey operations Bob Ferguson. "Pensacola will be ready to go, and we have to make sure we stay out of the box as much as possible. A new coach can be a tremendous boost to a team as well, a bit of a wake up call."
Augusta will also have a familiar face on the opposite side of the ice in forward Dan Sullivan. After spending parts of the past two seasons with Augusta, Sullivan was dealt over the summer for goaltender Brett Jaeger.
"I hope we're able to get off our current slide, and it would mean a lot to me to be able to get that first win tonight," said Sullivan. "I'm excited for this game."
