Pensacola Ice Pilots News Release
PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Pilots of the ECHL announced (today) Friday effective immediately that George Dupont will move over to concentrate full-time on hockey operations and player development in his new role of Director of Player Personnel.
In an additional move, the Ice Pilots also announced that Assistant Coach Joe Clark has been promoted to Interim-Head Coach. The announcements will take effect immediately, and Clark will assume the Head Coaching role tonight when the Ice Pilots host the Augusta Lynx in the first of back-to-back games at The Hangar beginning at 7:05 p.m.
"Without a doubt, the two changes we have just made solidifies the hockey side of this organization" states Greg Schuh, Ice Pilots President.
"George Dupont has always wanted to focus his expertise on the player and budget side of things and at the same time we are able to elevate Joe Clark to head coach, which is what he should be." Joe has been successful in coaching. He fits well into our system says Schuh."
Clark, a native of Augusta, Maine, is no stranger to the Head Coaching role after serving as bench boss for five years in the Norwegian National League and five years in the Danish National League. He also served as the first Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations with the Odessa Jackalopes of the former Western Professional Hockey League (now Central Hockey League). Clark has also served as an Assistant Coach with the University of Maine, one of the nations premiere college hockey programs.
"George brought me in here with an opportunity to get back behind the bench," said Clark. "I welcome the challenge and I think we are very close in turning the corner with the group of guys we have in the dressing room."
The Ice Pilots will have a busy month of November with a total of nine games including six against the Lynx, two versus the Florida Everblades and one against the South Carolina Stingrays.
Tickets to all Ice Pilots home games are available at the Pensacola Civic Center Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations or on line at www.ticketmaster.com. For further information on the Pensacola Ice Pilots including great group rates call (850) 432-7825.
