Toivonen posts shutout win

Providence, RI -- The Providence Bruins played the second of six consecutive road games on Friday night in Portland, skating to a 3-0 victory over the Portland Pirates. The Bruins are in third place in the Atlantic Division with their 18-10-2-5 record (41 points). The Bruins are 9-0-0-3 in their last 12 games, taking 21 of a possible 24 points over that span. Providence finished the month of December with a 9-2-0-3 record. Bruin center Ben Guite scored his fourth goal of the season, while defenseman Jayme Filipowicz added his second in the second period. Guite's proved to be the game-winner. Center Keith Aucoin sealed the win with an empty net goal late in the third period. Aucoin (1-1-2) and left wing Andy Hilbert (0-2-2) extended their respective career-high point streaks. Hilbert (3-8-11) has a team-high seven-game streak, while Aucoin has points (5-7-12) in six straight.

Bruin goaltender Hannu Toivonen stopped all 35 shots to improve to 15-9-3 on the season. The shutout was his third of the season, and fifth of his young career.
