Providence Bruins News Release

Providence Bruins center Patrice Bergeron finished the Preliminary Round of the 2005 World Junior Championships as the tournament's leading scorer, notching 3-7-10 totals in four games as Canada rolled to an unbeaten 4-0-0 record. The tournament is being held in Grand Forks, North Dakota and Thief River Falls, Minnesota. Bergeron, who won the gold medal with Canada at the 2004 World Championships last spring, left the Bruins on December 13 to join Canada. In 25 games with the Bruins, Bergeron has 10-17-27 totals, ranking third on the team behind Andy Hilbert and Brad Boyes. He will return to the Bruins at the conclusion of Canada's run in the tournament.

Canada, which is considered to have a strong chance at taking home the gold, will play next on Sunday, as it begins the Semifinals Round. The Canadians, who outscored the opposition, 32-5 in the Preliminary Round, will take on the winner of Saturday's Czech Republic-Finland game.

Team U.S.A., the defending World Jr. champions, was 2-2-0 in Preliminary Round action. The Stars & Stripes will take on Sweden on Saturday, with the winner moving on to face off with Russia on Sunday in the Semifinals.

The Relegation Round will be played on Monday, January 3 and the Medal Round will be played on Tuesday, January 4.

The Providence Bruins continue their six-game road swing tonight in Portland, when they face off with the Pirates at 5:35 p.m. All the action will be broadcast live on WDDZ AM-550 and on the team website, www.providencebruins.com.

The Bruins return home to host the Bridgeport Sound Tigers on Friday, January 14 at 7:05 p.m., and the Worcester IceCats on Sunday, January 16 at 4:05 p.m.
