Tobs Defeat Daredevils

Wilson Tobs News Release


KILL DEVIL HILLS, NC- The Wilson Tobs defeated the Outer Banks Daredevils by a score of 8-1 Thursday Night at First Flight Baseball Complex in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina. The Tobs offense slugged 13 hits and the bullpen did not allow a single run in the contest.

The Outer Banks Daredevils scored first in the bottom of the first inning. Outer Banks scored after a single by Wayne Hawkins. Chad Carmen then doubled home Hawkins and the Daredevils were leading the Tobs early 1-0.

After the 2nd inning the sky opened and rain poured down onto First Flight Baseball Complex. The rain delay lasted two hours and forty-one minutes. After the delay both starters were pulled and Daniel Brown came in for Wilson. Alan Watts got the call for Outer Banks. Brown replaced Brice Rivenbark, and Watts replaced Richard Hawkins for the Daredevils.

The Tobs took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 4th inning when Wilson loaded the bases with no one out. Ryan Mathews knocked in a run on a fielder's choice and the Alex Jones grounded out to 2nd base and earned the other RBI. The Tobs had the lead 4-1

The Tobs added another run in the fifth when the Daredevils committed an error with Jacob Davis at the plate. Ryan Mathews who lead off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch came into score. The Tobs led 3-1. The Daredevils could not respond in the bottom half of the fifth.

Wilson pushed two more runs across in the 7th inning after four straight singles to begin the inning Zac Mitchell scored on a passed ball and then Ryan Mathews hit a sacrifice fly to left field to score the second run. After six and a half innings the Tobs lead 5-1.

The Tobs hitting assault was not finished, Keith Morrisroe lead off the ninth with a single and then scampered home on a Steve Nikorak double to left field. Nikorak then trotted home on Mathew's forth homerun of the season. The score was 8-1 Tobs going to the bottom of the ninth. Outer Banks went down

Alan Watts (2-1) got the loss and Daniel Brown (2-0) was the winning pitcher. The time of the game was five hours and twenty minutes including the two hour and forty-one minute rain delay.

The Wilson Tobs will return home on Friday night June 24th to play the Edenton Steamers at 7:05 pm. The Tobs will host Police, Fire, and Rescue night. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
