Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Eric Grabe went 4-for-5 with five RBI's in support of starter Brandon Browne, and the Fayetteville SwampDogs defeated the Peninsula Pilots on Thursday night, 9-3, to capture their third straight victory.
The SwampDogs used a five-run sixth to break a 3-3 tie and grab the lead for good. All but on starter delivered a hit, as Fayetteville (12-9) pounded out 14 hits, eight of them coming against Peninsula's bullpen.
Brandon Browne (1-0) threw seven strong innings to earn his first win as a SwampDog. The Hope Mills, N.C. native allowed three runs - two earned - on six hits, walking four and striking out three.
Reliever Jonathon Roberts (1-2) got the final out of the fifth inning for Peninsula (12-10) after replacing starter Logan Lee to keep the game tied at three. But he started off the sixth by hitting SwampDogs catcher Nick O'Loughlin with a pitch, who would later come around to score the eventual winning run, forcing the loss on Roberts.
One night after throwing three innings on the mound to earn the win, Cody Davis went 2-for-3 at the plate with a double, two walks, and two runs scored. Mike Hebert threw the final two innings for the SwampDogs and allowed just one hit, striking out five of the seven batters he faced.
The win keeps the SwampDogs a game ahead of the Morehead City Marlins, and could put them into first place pending the result of Florence and Wilmington, currently delayed by rain in the seventh inning.
